CHESHAM UTD 1 - 1 BURY TOWN

Postby Mickeygee » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:20 pm

In case anyone is looking for the result, Chesham & Bury drew 1-1 this afternoon.

This was a much improved performance by Chesham in front of a crowd of 260 addicts, swelled by a good following making the long trip from Bury St. Edmunds.

Bury scored just before half time but Chesh managed an excellent equalizer by Dom Masarla close in, following a succession of passes ending in a cross from the right. It's good to see him back at the Club.

Chesham always looked likely to snatch a winner and dominated the game for lengthy periods while Bury seemed to be happy to get a draw, rarely threatening to score throughout the second half.

JK was voted Chesham's M.o.T.M - well deserved in my opinion, having worked tirelessly offensively and defensively and catching the eye with one particularly impressive 60-yard run which almost led to a goal. Leon Archer was sadly injured, which tended to weaken the goal prospects of the team.
The Bury 'keeper also played well, making some fine saves. There were a few bookings by the slightly puzzling referee, but there was no serious nastiness in the game.

Both of these teams looked to be worthy of a place in the playoffs, which is probably where they are both heading.

Bury have put footage of the build up and their goal and the foul that got their player sent off onto youtube:

And on 29seconds of the clip, you can clearly see the "Bully" coming in on Richie, leading with his Elbow. And the look on his face after, he knows he is going to walk

Good performance by Chesham and a result I would have taken pre-match although I think we deserved to sneak it 2-1 in the end.

One of the worst refereeing performances for a long time with him entering into debate with the supporters behind the goal, telling one fan to shut up (asking to calm down politely would have been more appropriate) and failing to send a bury player off for a pole-axe bodyslam which would have warranted a sinbin even in rugby! This ref left me totally frustrated in what could have been a classic match and led to me shouting a bit more than I probably should have and leaving with a very sore throat - let's hope we don't get any more refs of this standard then I won't be forced to embarrass myself quite so much in future :) The ref should be there to enforce the rules and not have such an impact on the flow and result of the match.

Anyhows rant over - although frustrating a thoroughly enjoyable game - even my girlfriend enjoyed it - result :D

Generally a very combative game, we played well thought it was a close contest and would agree the ref was naff and think the Kyricou Man of the Match was a fair call too.
